Sleep
Do something relaxing before you go to sleep

A warm bath can be very relaxing

Listening to quiet music can help you relax

It is best not to exercise right before going to bed


Socialization
Do something enjoyable with a family member or friend
Tips:

Relating to someone you trust and doing something enjoyable will help you feel better

Interacting with other people gives you an important sense of belonging


Medication
Give yourself a visual cue to help you remember to take your medication
Tips:

It is important to take your medicine at the same time each day

Depending on when you must take your medication, put your pill(s) next to your breakfast plate in the morning, or next to your plate at dinnertime

Use a special calendar to mark off each day after you've taken your medicine


Diet
Try to drink 6-8 glasses of water daily, and more if you are exercising
Tips:

The body needs water to perform important digestive functions and brain processes

Prevent dehydration by drinking small amounts of water throughout the day

Small sips of water can help ease the dry mouth caused by some medications used to treat schizophrenia


Exercise
If your doctor gives you the go-ahead,
Tips:

Do a few stretching or flexibility exercises while listening to music Do stretches gently, just far enough to feel a little pull in your muscles

Begin gradually and set small goals for exercising, such as 5-10 minutes every other day for the first week

Doing simple stretching exercises on a regular basis will increase your muscle
